Luxembourg Regulator Backs Ripple’s European Payment Expansion Plans

Ripple has received initial regulatory consent for an Electronic Money Institution license in Luxembourg. This step is pivotal for the firm’s ambition to accelerate its payment services across the European Union.

Granted by Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier, this preliminary approval sets the stage for Ripple to enhance its platform for EU institutions. The service will facilitate payments using digital assets, including stablecoins.

The authorization was delivered as a “green light letter” and remains subject to standard final conditions before becoming complete, according to a Ripple statement.

This progress follows the company’s recent achievement in the UK, where it obtained equivalent EMI licensure alongside crypto asset firm registration. That decision allowed Ripple to begin scaling its platform in the UK as the country moves toward a structured regulatory environment for crypto.

Operating as a licensed, end-to-end solution, Ripple Payments enables the company to custody customer funds and connect those clients to a vast global array of payout partners.
