Deputies of the lower house of the parliament of Kazakhstan have proposed creating a register of crypto mining farms and raising electricity tariffs for mining cryptocurrencies, local media reports.

According to deputy Zhambyl Akhmetbekov, foreign miners consume large amounts of electricity and increase their income abroad, without benefiting Kazakhstan. He said at a meeting of parliament:

“In this regard, it is proposed to create a legislative register to record the so-called mining farms and introduce a special increased tariff for electricity for them.”

Earlier, the country’s Energy Minister Magzum Mirzagaliyev proposed to limit the consumption of mining data centers in the event of a power shortage.

This year, many companies involved in cryptocurrency mining became interested in Kazakhstan against the backdrop of the policy of the Chinese authorities in relation to the industry.
