The community of the privacy-focused crypto Zcash (ZEC) yesterday celebrated five years since the launch of its mainnet.

The launch, which took place in 2016, was accompanied by high volatility – at some point, the price jumped to 2,600 BTC for 1 ZEC, or more than $1.8 million at the exchange rate at that time.

Now, the asset is trading at $157, having added 3.8% over the past 24 hours, according to CoinGecko. In the rating by capitalization, Zcash ranks 81 with a market cap of $1.8 billion.

In 2020, the Zcash creator and CEO of Electric Coin Company, the firm behind it, Zuko Wilcox, said the project had achieved great success during its existence.

Among the achievements, he highlighted the identification and elimination of a critical vulnerability in 2018, as well as the development of the community.

To celebrate Zcash’s 5th anniversary, Wilcox has posted a thread with selected congratulations from members of the crypto community.

The Zcash network experienced a halving in November last year.
