Decentralized Finance Critic Steps Down as SEC General Counsel

SEC General Counsel Dan Berkowitz will retire on January 31.

According to the website of the regulator, Megan Barbero, who is currently Berkowitz’s First Deputy, will take his place.

He has explained:

“After 34 years of public service, it is time to tackle new and diverse challenges and opportunities.”

Berkowitz, who joined the SEC on November 1 after serving as commissioner of the CFTC, has spoken negatively about the DeFi sector.

According to the Washington Examiner, Berkowitz met with FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried prior to his new position.
