The WLD token, a cryptocurrency project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has experienced a 140% increase in value in the past week, as its daily active users surpassed 1 million.

This is a significant increase from November 2023 when it only had 100,000 daily active users, as announced by Worldcoin on February 18 on their X blog.

Worldcoin was created in July 2023 by Sam Altman and Alex Blania, with the purpose of developing a privacy-protecting digital identity verification platform that rewards users with their native cryptocurrency for scanning their irises.

Their ultimate goal is to implement Universal Basic Income (UBI) on a global scale, by issuing a small amount of WLD tokens to everyone who verifies their identity.

However, Worldcoin’s plans for UBI have raised concerns over privacy issues due to their use of metallic eye-scanning devices called “Orbs.” This has sparked controversy surrounding the project.
