Roger Ver, also known as “Bitcoin Jesus” and the founder of Bitcoin.com, was arrested in Spain for tax fraud based on charges from the US Department of Justice.

The US government intends to request his extradition to face charges of mail fraud, tax evasion, and filing false tax returns.

According to law enforcement officials, Ver allegedly concealed his ownership of Bitcoin from the IRS, resulting in a loss of $48 million.

In June 2017, his two companies held 70,000 BTC, which he used for personal gain by hiding the information from his accountant and selling a large portion of it for $240 million on cryptocurrency exchanges.

Despite not being a US citizen, Ver was still legally obligated to report and pay taxes on certain income, including dividends from his US-based companies MemoryDealers and Agilestar.
