Square to Implement Lightning Network Bitcoin Payments by 2026

Jack Dorsey’s Block has unveiled plans to bring Lightning Network-powered Bitcoin payments to Square’s merchant platform.

The integration, demonstrated at Bitcoin 2025, will allow businesses to accept BTC through their current Square terminals without additional hardware.

The system will feature real-time fiat conversion options while maintaining the speed and cost benefits of Bitcoin’s layer-2 solution.

A limited release is planned for late 2025, with full deployment anticipated the following year, pending regulatory clearance.
