Senate to Hold Decisive Vote on GENIUS Stablecoin Bill Next Week
The US Senate has scheduled its final vote on the GENIUS Act for June 17, a move that could shape the regulatory landscape for stablecoins nationwide.
According to a Thursday announcement from Senate Democrats, the exact timing of the vote will be determined by the Majority Leader in coordination with Democratic leadership.
The legislation, formally known as the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US Stablecoins Act, cleared a key procedural hurdle on Wednesday, paving the way for next week’s vote.
The bill imposes strict requirements on stablecoin issuers, including full reserve backing, mandatory audits for large issuers, and compliance rules for foreign entities. If passed, it will proceed to the House, where the STABLE Act—a rival proposal—was recently advanced by the Financial Services Committee.
