The Iranian authorities have just announced a new ban affecting the cryptocurrency industry. This time, the country’s Ministry of Energy has unveiled through its spokesman Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi its plans to impose a fine on cryptocurrency miners who use household electricity to make their mining devices work Tehran Times has reported.
The ministry has argued that it has taken the decision due to the fact that the energy sector is having a really hard year because of the severe drought the country is experiencing and the damages caused by crypto mining on the electricity network.
According to them, the use of household electricity by cryptocurrency miners is affecting the work of the electricity network in the country, causing power outages.
Iranian officials claim that miners breaking the law will face both fines as well as the potential obligation to pay for the damages their activity might have caused.
