Rollkit Project Introduces Infrastructure for Deploying Rollups in BTC

The Rollkit team has developed a modular framework to enable sovereign rollups on the Bitcoin blockchain.

Rollkit has emphasized the project became possible thanks to the Taproot update, and the Ordinals protocol for issuing NFTs on the Bitcoin blockchain showed the way to the solution. The latter demonstrated how users can publish arbitrary data in blocks.

Rollkit enables custom runlevels like EVM, CosmWasm, and Cosmos SDK. For integration testing, the project team used a local Bitcoin testnet and Ethermint to run the EVM.

Muneeb Ali, CEO of Blockstack, is thrilled about the project’s decision to release research tools that will enable it to benefit from sovereign rollups at the L1 level of Bitcoin for data availability.
