Employees of the international cryptocurrency pyramid, AirBit Club, were sentenced to prison by the Southern District of New York court.

The sentenced individuals include Scott Hughes, Cecilia Millan, and Karina Chariez. The court emphasized that such pyramids would not be possible without the participation of individuals like the defendants.

US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, stated that this ruling serves as a warning to anyone involved in cryptocurrency investment schemes, not just those at the top of the pyramid.

Scott Hughes, the lawyer involved in the scam, received a sentence of 18 months for money laundering approximately $18 million.

Cecilia Millan and Karina Chaires, promoters of AirBit Club, were each sentenced to five years and one year in prison respectively.

The pyramid scheme, founded in 2015 by Pablo Renato Rodriguez and Gutemberg Dos Santos, promised investors daily returns from investments in cryptocurrency trading and mining.

The project was heavily advertised globally through expensive presentations.
