The Offchain Labs team has completed an update to ArbOS, known as Atlas, with the addition of support for BLOB transactions. These transactions are designed to lower the cost of transferring data from L2 to the Ethereum mainnet.

The upgrade, which includes incorporating EIP-4844, was activated on March 13 in the second largest cryptocurrency network.

L2 networks will need to update their software in order to integrate the new transaction type. The Arbitrum community overwhelmingly supported Atlas, which implements most of the changes in the upgrade made the day before.

Optimism, Base, and Starknet have also seen significant improvement in gas efficiency as a result of the upgrade.
