On Monday evening, the centralized crypto exchange OKX launched the public mainnet of X Layer, an Ethereum-based zero-knowledge Layer 2 network that utilizes the Polygon Chain Development Kit.

According to OKX CMO Haider Rafique, X Layer and other Layer 2 chains will serve as the infrastructure for the Web3 world, with decentralized applications (dApps) acting as marketplaces and self-hosted wallets acting as the vehicles.

In order to achieve this goal, OKX is creating an ecosystem that is seamless and interoperable.

X Layer, previously known as “X1,” was launched on testnet in November and has already attracted over 50 dApps including popular Web3 and DeFi apps such as The Graph, Curve, LayerZero, QuickSwap, Galxe, and Timeswap.
