Bybit Announces 2026 Phase-Out of Services in Japan
Bybit will initiate a gradual discontinuation of services for residents of Japan starting in 2026. The move is a direct response to the need to comply with the nation’s regulatory framework, the exchange stated. It confirmed that account restrictions will be introduced on a rolling basis for users identified as Japanese residents.
The exchange clarified that individuals who believe they have been incorrectly classified must undergo additional identity verification processes. This step is necessary as Bybit currently lacks registration with Japan’s Financial Services Agency. This body mandates that all cryptocurrency exchanges offering services to Japanese users obtain local approval.
In an official announcement, Bybit communicated the changes directly to users. “If you’re a resident of Japan, please note that starting from 2026 your account will be subject to gradual restrictions. You’ll receive additional updates on the remediation process in subsequent communications,” the notice read.
Bybit is consistently ranked among the world’s largest platforms for digital asset trading by volume. Recent data from CoinGecko indicates the exchange handled approximately $4.3 billion in trades over a 24-hour period.
