Western Union Bets on Brand: Files ‘WUUSD’ Trademark to Bridge Crypto and Mainstream Finance
Western Union is leaning into its iconic brand identity with a new trademark filing for “WUUSD,” signaling a consumer-focused approach to its upcoming stablecoin offerings.
The filing, submitted a day after the company revealed its “USDPT” stablecoin, suggests WUUSD could be the recognizable brand for users interacting with its new Digital Asset Network.
While USDPT is the technical name of the Solana-based token set for a 2026 launch, WUUSD likely represents the consumer-facing side of the business—the name customers will see on downloadable wallet software and when processing stablecoin payments.
This two-pronged naming strategy allows Western Union to maintain technical specificity while building a branded, accessible product for its global customer base.
