Visa is tackling slow payment speeds with a new pilot that allows businesses to pay in stablecoins directly from their standard bank accounts.

The initiative, announced this week, means US companies can now use the Visa Direct network to send funds, such as the USDC stablecoin, to a crypto wallet in minutes instead of days.

“This is about enabling truly universal access to money in minutes, not days,” said Chris Newkirk of Visa. The service is initially aimed at international firms and gig economy platforms, catering to the 57% of gig workers who, according to Visa’s research, prefer digital payments for faster fund access. A broader launch is planned for 2026.
