The US Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry has scheduled a markup hearing for its crypto market structure bill for January 27. The legislation is promoted as a measure to deliver “clarity and certainty” to digital asset markets.

The committee, which holds jurisdiction over the Commodities Futures Trading Commission, announced the timing on Monday. The final markup will occur six days following the public release of the bill’s text on January 21.

Committee chairman John Boozman stated that this schedule promotes transparency and permits a comprehensive review. He emphasized the goal of advancing legislation to establish clear rules for crypto markets.

Boozman also expressed gratitude to Senator Booker for his partnership and to committee staff for their work. He noted their dedication to crafting new rules aimed at consumer protection and the support of US innovation.

A Senate markup is a process where a committee debates, amends, and finalizes legislative details. Upon completion, the committee votes to send the bill, potentially with changes, to the full Senate for consideration.
