Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued rules for cryptocurrency ETFs, initially limiting the products to Bitcoin and Ether.
The framework will take effect on 16 October and requires ETFs to maintain average net exposure of at least 80% to the underlying crypto asset during each accounting year. Funds must also use SEC-licensed custodians and list exclusively on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
Investors will have to acknowledge the risks before trading, while securities firms will not be allowed to provide margin loans for crypto ETF purchases.
Thai mutual and private funds will also be able to invest in locally listed crypto ETFs, expanding their options beyond foreign crypto products.
