French lawmakers have backed a measure requiring taxpayers to report self-custodied cryptocurrency worth at least €100,000 to the tax authorities. The amendment was approved by the National Assembly on Tuesday, with 150 votes in favour, 44 against and eight abstentions.

The threshold would apply to the combined value of holdings on 31 December each year. Lawmakers also rejected a separate proposal to exempt gains from crypto payments worth up to €1,000 annually, voting 69 to 14 against the measure.

The reporting rule is included in the 2027 Finance Bill but must survive further parliamentary scrutiny to become law. The National Assembly has until 17 November to complete its first reading, before the Senate begins debating the bill on 20 November.
