An attacker has stolen assets from IRA Financial Trust-managed retirement savings accounts on Gemini. According to a Bloomberg source, the damage amounts to $36 million in Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The affected clients have reported on Reddit the transfer of their assets to the accounts of an unknown person under the pseudonym Benjamin Choe. Others have reported freezing funds without any explanation and difficulties in obtaining information from representatives of the IRA Financial Trust.

On the day of the hack on February 8, the firm urged people to beware of phishing, and after the incident briefly said they had been targeted by some unknown hackers. As a precautionary measure, IRA Financial Trust has suspended access to customer accounts.

Five days later, the company reported “all funds are safe.” According to the statement, “suspicious activity has affected a limited number of customers.” The officers launched an investigation and contacted law enforcement.
