The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has recently formed a new division focused on analyzing on-chain activity in decentralized networks, as stated by Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco at the Munich Cyber Security Conference virtual conference.

According to her, the new unit will include investigators with experience in investigating incidents involving digital assets, as well as knowledge in the field of on-chain analysis.

The division will become part of the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET) announced last fall. The latter is part of the US Department of Justice.

The Department of Justice has announced the appointment of NCET’s first director, former Manhattan District Attorney Eun Yong Choi.

In February, the US authorities announced the detention of persons involved in the hacking of the crypto exchange Bitfinex in 2016, as well as the confiscation of $ 3.6 billion in BTC.
