Ruja Ignatova, founder of cryptocurrency pyramid scheme OneCoin, was killed in November 2018 on a yacht in the Ionian Sea, the BIRD project has reported with reference to documents from the Bulgarian police.
According to the publication, as part of an investigation into a case not related to OneCoin about the murder of a police officer, reports of several informants fell into the hands of law enforcement agencies.
Journalists managed to get access to these papers. In a conversation with BIRD, Deputy Prosecutor of Sofia Hristo Krastev has confirmed that the mentioned documents were indeed seized. However, he has noted that his office does not consider the materials as evidence.
He has said:
“They whistleblower reports are not documents because there is no information about the author, they do not have a signature and they are not specific written statements by a specific person.”
