CCP Games, with seed funding led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and other investors including Makers Fund, Bitkraft, Kingsway Capital, Hashed, and Nexon, have raised $40 million to create a blockchain-based game set in the EVE space universe.

Investors have recognized the studio’s expertise in creating large open worlds and intricate economies.

The new AAA game will incorporate smart contract technology with a focus on security and scalability. CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson has stated that the developers’ goal is to make a virtual world that is “more meaningful to users than real life.”
