Bitfarms has been granted the necessary permits to ramp up the power consumption of its Rio Cuarto (Argentina) facility to 100 MW.

The firm had initially begun construction of the data center in October 2021 and had five data centers in Canada.

Initially, the power consumption at the Rio Cuarto facility is set to double to 18 MW with the deployment of 2,100 ASIC miners from Bitmain and MicroBT.

The contract for electricity in Argentina is said to be less than $0.03 per kWh, which is the lowest rate in the company’s portfolio.

6,200 miners have also been purchased to be placed in the Rio Cuarto facility, with the hash rate reaching 1.1 EH/s and the total for Bitfarms going up to 5.7 EH/s.
