Coinbase Files to Launch XRP Futures Contracts

Coinbase plans to list XRP futures contracts through its derivatives arm, benefiting from increased legal clarity for the asset.

On April 3, the exchange announced it submitted a filing to the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to self-certify XRP futures. If approved, the contract will launch on April 21, 2025.

This move makes Coinbase the second US-regulated platform to offer XRP futures, following Bitnomial, which recently launched the first US XRP futures.

These developments occur amid a positive shift in the regulatory and institutional landscape for XRP, previously affected by legal uncertainties due to its involvement in the SEC’s case against Ripple.
