Banks now account for nearly 23% of crypto-asset service providers listed under the EU’s MiCA framework, up from about 17% in late June.

The number of banks on the register doubled from roughly 40 to 80 between 26 June and 16 September, according to data from the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). Over the same period, the total number of listed providers increased from 243 to 349.

Non-bank providers remain the majority of the register and also grew in absolute numbers. However, their share fell from about 84% to 77% as banks expanded at a faster pace.

The figures point to a growing presence for traditional financial institutions in Europe’s regulated crypto market as MiCA implementation progresses.
