Tether says it helped freeze $550 million in Iran-linked USDT

Tether said it helped authorities freeze about $550 million in USDT linked to Iran during 2026.

The company said more than $344 million was frozen in April across two addresses linked to Iran’s central bank, followed by more than $130 million across four wallets in July.

The statement came after a report from Democratic investigators on the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. Their analysis found that 84% of 846 Iran-linked wallets had used USDT almost exclusively or exclusively. Senator Richard Blumenthal called for Treasury and Justice Department investigations into Tether’s sanctions and anti-money laundering practices.

Tether said its cooperation with authorities has resulted in more than $4.9 billion in assets being frozen globally, including more than $2.4 billion linked to US authorities.
