The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is launching a review of countries with significant cryptocurrency markets to check how effectively they enforce international anti-money laundering standards.

The review will concentrate on jurisdictions with “materially important” virtual asset service provider (VASP) activity. The FATF will also consider each country’s existing assessment status. Its July 2026 report identified markets responsible for about 97% of global virtual asset activity, including the US, UK, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.

The FATF has not named the jurisdictions that will take part. It plans to publish initial findings in June 2027 and further results in October. Being included in the report does not mean a country has a higher risk of illicit finance or fails to meet FATF standards.
