According to the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), romance scams and pig butchering schemes are recognized as the most popular tactics used by bitcoin scammers.

About 40% of the 8,300 complaints received by the bureau between October 2018 and September 2022 are related to cryptocurrency scams and scams.

With most of the victims, the attackers acted out a romantic scenario in order to take their money.

The tactic of “butchering the pigs” was also actively used, which involves creating the image of a successful crypto trader on the network with the promise of high returns on investment.

In third place among scammers is impersonation of influencers or support staff.

About 25% of complaints were about various problems with transactions. 16% related to hacks, frozen accounts, identity verification problems and other technological problems with crypto platforms.
