House Revives Crypto Legislation, Setting Up Crucial Thursday Vote
After a dramatic reversal, the US House has resurrected three key cryptocurrency bills, positioning them for a potential floor vote Thursday.
The breakthrough came with the passage of H.Res 580 (217-212), which revives the GENIUS Act, Clarity Act, and Anti-CBDC bill—previously stalled due to GOP concerns over CBDC implications.
The GENIUS Act, already Senate-approved, would create a federal stablecoin framework and could be enacted imminently. The Clarity Act assigns regulatory authority between the SEC and CFTC, while the Anti-CBDC bill explicitly bars the Fed from issuing a retail central bank digital currency.
Despite earlier Republican resistance—centered on fears the GENIUS Act might enable a CBDC—bill sponsors clarified it does the opposite. The Senate will now weigh in.
