11-Year-Old Bitcoin Wallet Moves $116M as Dormant Whale Activity Continues
Onchain data confirms a significant movement from a long-dormant Bitcoin whale. On Tuesday, a wallet that had been inactive for over 11 years transferred its entire balance of 1,000 BTC, valued at $116.6 million.
The wallet originally acquired the coins in early 2014 when the price of Bitcoin was approximately $847, representing an astronomical gain on the initial investment. Analytics firms Arkham and Lookonchain tracked the transaction, which distributed the funds to four new addresses, though the owner remains unidentified.
This event is the latest in a series of awakenings from vintage Bitcoin wallets. The trend of OG investors moving old coins has picked up as Bitcoin’s price has surged, with another whale ending a 13-year dormancy just last week, often prompting market speculation about their next move.
