Crypto firms operating in the UK can now apply for authorisation under the country’s new regulatory framework, with the FCA setting a 28 February 2027 deadline.

The Financial Conduct Authority opened its application gateway on 30 September. The new rules will take effect on 25 October 2027 and cover activities including trading, custody, staking and other crypto services.

Firms seeking approval will have to meet FCA requirements on customer protection, asset safeguarding, market integrity and financial resilience. The regulator said applications will be assessed against the full set of requirements rather than automatically approved.
