Crypto Expert Files Lawsuit Against US Attorney General
A crypto developer has filed a lawsuit against the head of the US Justice Department, seeking a court ruling to declare their crypto software legal and prevent any potential future prosecutions.
Michael Lewellen, a member of the crypto advocacy group Coin Center, filed the suit against Attorney General Merrick Garland on January 16 in a federal court in Texas.
He plans to publicly release new non-custodial crypto software called Pharos, which focuses on crowdfunding campaigns.
Lewellen stated that the federal government has recently started prosecuting individuals for publishing similar crypto software, claiming it is unlicensed money transmitting.
