French Senate backs automatic exchange of crypto tax data
France’s Senate has approved a bill allowing tax authorities to automatically share information on cryptocurrency transactions with their counterparts in other countries.
The legislation passed its first reading on Tuesday and has now been sent to the National Assembly for consideration. It covers an agreement on exchanging crypto tax information and an update to an existing framework for sharing financial account data.
The proposed rules follow the OECD’s Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF), which sets common standards for collecting and exchanging information on crypto transactions. France already requires crypto service providers to report customer identities and transaction data under the EU’s DAC8 directive, introduced through its 2025 Finance Act.
