The Tempo blockchain, a joint project from Stripe and Paradigm, has launched its first public testnet. This move represents a significant milestone toward the official release of the new layer-1 blockchain.

According to a Tuesday announcement, the open-source testnet is now live, allowing anyone to run a node or sync the chain. The launch initiates a new development phase focused on scale, reliability, and improving the integration experience for users.

Tempo stated its team will now work on onboarding infrastructure partners and stress-testing throughput. The network launches with several key features active, including dedicated payment lanes and stablecoin-native gas mechanics.

The blockchain is specifically engineered for financial applications, prioritizing instant settlement and predictable low fees. It also features a built-in decentralized exchange for stable assets and modern wallet signing methods.
