The US Department of Justice has completed the seizure of over $400 million tied to Helix, a darknet cryptocurrency mixer.

A final court order grants the government ownership of cryptocurrency, real estate, and financial accounts associated with the service, which was used to launder funds from illegal online markets.

Authorities stated Helix processed at least 354,468 Bitcoin between 2014 and 2017, primarily for clients seeking to obscure illicit funds.

The service’s operator, Larry Dean Harmon, previously pleaded guilty to money laundering conspiracy and was sentenced to three years in prison in 2024. The case highlights the ongoing regulatory debate around privacy-focused cryptocurrency tools.
