17 US attorneys general oppose Clarity Act ahead of Senate vote

A bipartisan group of 17 US attorneys general has urged senators to reject the Clarity Act, arguing that the bill could weaken states’ ability to pursue crypto fraud and protect investors.

New York Attorney General Letitia James led the group, which said the proposed rules could create uncertainty over state enforcement powers and make it harder to hold crypto firms accountable.

The letter was sent to Senate Banking Committee Chair Tim Scott and top Democrat Elizabeth Warren ahead of Tuesday’s procedural vote. Senate Republicans released a revised version of the more than 600-page bill on Sunday as they seek the 60 votes needed to advance it.
